Graphic Design

I probably can't describe how much I love this course! We've just had it for 4 days and I'm in love with it. My teacher is amazing, she's about 50 and so funny and the assignments are awesome! For each assignment we're doing, we will start to reflect and analyze our work more and more for each time and that is just too much fun! I love thinking deeper about art and write it as an assignment, just because I know that's something I totally can win. Plus for this course we actually have to start to think for ourselves, eg. we have to read and understand the assignments the way we think they're supposed to be done, because it has to do with our creativeness. I just love this!

Snow photos!

My mom wanted some photos of the famous snow over here so here we go.

This is from over a week ago. The snow pile is reaching up to the second floor of the apartments here. And since it has snowed even more, you can barely see the door to the apartments to the left because the snow is being piled out on the parking lot now.
This is on the way to the store, before we get on the big road. It was snowing pretty hard and it was very windy and the roads where slippery because of the loose snow. Though life!

Self portrait.

This is my second round in Illustrator and I must say I'm pretty impressed with myself! I did it all on my own since I haven't got any of my books yet. Score! This is for our first assignment in Graphic Design, a self portrait in the colors black, white and shades of grey plus one color of your choice. Of course I had to make my eyes green, that's what makes my face! I will make a few more portraits and see which one I like the most. Maybe a portrait a day in different styles, we shall see!

New courses!

And so I've finished my first semester at university and started the second today. I'm really excited for the two courses we are doing right now, and also the two we will have after there two! Right now we have web design for social interaction and graphic design. Thought I'd share my first try-to-do-this-in-illustrator picture that I've made in my whole life.
Please click on the picture to see it on a white background which is the point!
It's not the best thing I've ever produced but the exercise was for us to try the different tools in Adobe Illustrator and I think that I made a pretty good job (if we don't compare it to my teacher's one) and I will get better at this after some practice.

Other than new courses, the snow keeps coming! It's snowing almost every day and the pile of snow that is being plowed from the parking lot outside is getting bigger and bigger, it's almost as high as the houses here and just let me tell you that the houses have 3 storages...

Back in school.

My view.
I'm sitting at the campus downtown because Jess is in class and I had to do an online exam for my course, which is now done! It feels great to have finished the first course at University, and I can't wait for the upcoming two; Graphical Design and Webb Design. It'll be a lot of fun and I get to do a lot of things in Photoshop so I'm gonna be in the zone! I will have to change location in about half an hour, Jess is having her second class in the BIG building on the 6th floor so I will have a great view of the river and Grand Rapids. Will take a photo and show you how pretty it is with all the snow that we now have.

The winter here is insane btw, I didn't think there would be any good cold or snow but oh I was so wrong. There's new snow coming every other day, about one decimeter each time and the cars get really icy if it has been warm while snowing. Yesterday Jess' car had about 4 millimeter of ice frozen onto the windows and it was a pain to scrape it off. Luckily when I had done the right side of the car, the other half was heated up so the ice just slipped off easily. Today it's pretty snowy but the sun is out and shining and the icicles are melting and you can see it dripping. Really pretty!

As you know, we have started to work out again. Tho' yesterday we wanted some sweets and ended up going to the store, feeling sick and disgusting after we had eaten what we bought. So, we went to the gym at 9pm and went home again at 11pm. It was probably one of the nicest workouts I've ever had even if I felt like puking after running on the treadmill. I never thought I'd say this but I can't wait to go back there tonight and run a bit more, I'm becoming a gym-oholic!

I want to take a lot of photos of Grand Rapids and the campuses, haven't had a lot of time or opportunities to do it so I hope it will be soon. The snow makes everything look so much better! I might buy some GVSU stuff today, like a t-shirt and a hoodie or something like that. I really love the clothes that every school has here in the US. They have school t-shirts, hoodies, sweatpants, nicer clothes, winter wear, folders, water bottles.... There's so much more pride in everything over here compared to Sweden, or maybe it's just for publicity when people use it. Anyways, I bought a Michigan State t-shirt when we were at the football game and Jess has given me some of her t-shirts and shorts from different schools she's gone too or got offers for soccer scholarships, but I want some GV stuff too.

Extra: I'm now at the 6th floor in one of the campus buildings and I will for sure come back here next week and bring my camera. The view is amazing and I could take some good photos of the buildings and also a panorama of the city!

Hey all!

This past weekend has been amazing! We've had so much fun and did fun stuff and just had a blast all the time! First of all we've (for real this time) started a better life. We're doing a "5 things, 5 days a week" thing that Jess came up with and it's basically just 5 things we have to do 5 days a week. Here's our list:
  • Work out / Gym.
  • Go to bed at 12am (midnight) during the week, 1am at weekends.
  • Wake up at 10am during the week, 11am at weekends.
  • Eat healthy.
  • Read, draw, write.
I suggest to every one of you who reads this to do something like this too. It helps you to de-stress and get into a routine without too many rules.

So what did we do this weekend? We hung out with Lisa, Jess' classmate from last semester and we went out for dinner and ice skating with her on Friday. For anyone who knows me, my balance is terrible and I haven't been on a pair of skates since I was approximately 5-7 years old and the last memory I have from being on skates is on the frozen pond in the forest where we used to live. So, Bambi on Ice here we go! Lisa could ice skate since before and Jess claimed she couldn't but she just skated away when we got to the ice. Poor girls had to help me around the ice and teach me how to move my feet and everything you should think about. It took me about 30 min to get the hang of it and I could actually move forward in the end and I never fell! Tho' I was darn close, but that was when I was standing still by the side, waiting on leaving. Almost fell twice, but managed to stand on my very two feet! After our little work out we went to our lovely Japanese restaurant and had dinner, it was delicious and we had a really good time just hanging out.

The photos are very dark and blurry, but they're taken with my phone so don't blame me!

We also rented a movie, Easy A, which me and Jess already had seen but it's just amazing so we watched it with Lisa again and what can I say. Emma Stone is just amazing and Amanda Bynes is hilarious!

On Saturday me and Jess went to the mall to watch one of the cheap movies. We decided to give Morning Glory a chance and that one was hilarious and very good as well! 2010 and 2011 are the year of movies, seriously. All the great movies are released now and I'm so happy it's so cheap to see them here!

And last, yesterday (Sunday). Me and Jess just spent time at the apartment and went to the gym. It's awesome how good you feel after a good work out. Makes me want a gym at home in Sweden (I know you're reading this, mom!!!).

Film projekt.

Here's the film I made for class.

Allt du behöver veta om hamstrar from Evelina Börjesson on Vimeo.
Breakfast: Banana.
Lunch: Sandwich with spinach and turkey.
Dinner: Butter and garlic-pasta with spinach and peas.
Right now: Just finished one of my final projects for the first course I'm taking! It's feeling good and I'll post it when it's uploaded.
Things to do: Study for the exam in a week.
What did Buzz the Hamster do? He's still hiding in his tuber, but we've been playing with him a bit.
Weather: Still snowy, but it's getting warmer so it's a bit slushy here and there.
Looking forward to: No more early mornings because of Jess' classes! Can sleep to 10 every day :) Also working out again, went to the gym today for 45-50min and I feel really good. Beach '11 will have to watch out for me this year ;)

January 7.

Breakfast: Cereal, yogurt and blueberries.
Lunch: Egg fried rice with shrimps but no egg. So just fried rice with shrimps. Own recipe and delicious!
Dinner: Curry Chicken.
Right now: Trying to install a program that will run windows on my Mac laptop so we can play computer games.
Things to do: Study for an exam that is coming up and finish my video.
What did Buzz the Hamster do? He's hiding and being a pussy as always. We made a double cage for him since we have a spare one now and he is sleeping in the tubes that are connecting them. Meh, boring guy!
Weather: Snow! It's been snowing since we came back to Grand Rapids a few days ago. And it's beautiful!
Looking forward to: Just relax and eat good food. Watching a movie tonight at home, and probably playing some more FIFA '09! :)

New Year, New Experiences.

I hope the beginning of 2011 has brought you the best it could so far! For this year, I'm all about new experiences and trying to let go a bit more.

First thing I've experienced is Bulk Food, or in our case just candy. Here in the US they sell candy like pick and mix, just like in Sweden and England. Tho' there's one big difference. Each kind has their own price. So what you have to do is picking the kinds that cost the same in one bag and write a number on it and then pick other kinds in other bags. But wait a minute, it's not only about candy! They have snacks like crackers of all kinds, and baking needs like flour, different kinds of sugar, baking powder eg. It's a really good idea but so tricky to go shopping that way and it takes so long time for me or anyone else that is retarded when it comes to decisions!

Second thing isn't an experience. It's more of a show that I had the pleasure to watch Jess and Scooter fight over the Christmas Fox Scooter got for Christmas. You can see it right here.

And last, I've bought myself a MacBook Pro! It's amazing! It makes no sounds, it goes so fast and the design is fantastic! Not even comparable to the laptop I had, which was making chain saw sounds and shutting down every now and then. Good Christmas present there :)

Tomorrow we are going back to Allendale (Grand Rapids) and Jess is going back to school on Monday. I've been working on projects for school during break because apparently I don't have any breaks at all! Oh well, maybe that's the best so I don't get on my lazy side after a few weeks off?
